Join the Nigerian Army as a SSC Commission Officer
The Nigerian Army is looking for eligible Nigerians to apply for the position of Short Service Combatant (SSC) Commission Officers.
This opportunity is available for both civilians and current military personnel.
Successful applicants will be trained and commissioned as officers, serving in various combat roles such as Infantry, Armoured Corps, Artillery, Engineers, Signals, and Intelligence Corps.
Entry Requirements
- Nationality: Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth.
- Age: The age range for applicants is between 23 and 27 years by January 1, 2024.
- Fitness : Candidates must be in good health, both physically and mentally, and meet the fitness standards set by the Nigerian Army.
- Character: A recommendation and attestation of good character from at least two recognized referees are required. These can be from a Local Government Chairman, a senior military officer, or an Assistant Commissioner of Police.
- Height: The minimum height requirement is 1.68 meters for males and 1.65 meters for females.
- Education: Candidates must hold at least a first degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division or an HND with a minimum of Lower Credit in Arts, Sciences, or Humanities from accredited institutions.
- Documents: Applicants must provide a valid birth certificate, a certificate of state of origin, and other necessary educational certificates.
Conditions of Service
- Service Period: The SSC is a 15-year service commission, with the first 10 years on active duty. The initial bonding period is renewable, but no extension is granted beyond 15 years, except for conversion to a regular combatant commission where applicable.
- Rank: Successful candidates who complete the training will be granted the rank of Second Lieutenant.
- Conversion: SSC officers may have the opportunity to convert to a regular combatant commission, depending on availability and other criteria.
- Service Tenure: For civilian entrants, the service period is calculated from the commencement date of cadet training, while for military personnel, it is from the date of enlistment.

- How to Apply: Applications are to be submitted online for free from August 1, 2024, to September 18, 2024. Visit the Nigerian Army recruitment webpage, choose the SSC option, and follow the instructions.
- Documents: Upload required documents such as a passport photograph, educational certificates, evidence of membership in any professional body, certificate of state of origin, birth certificate, or age declaration.
- Print Out: After submitting the application, applicants must print out the online generated photo-slip. The first page should be signed by a Court Registrar, and the second page by the applicant’s Local Government Chairman or a senior military officer from their state of origin.
